Central Island athletes haul major medals from BC Summer Games

NANAIMO — Athletes from across the mid-Island have returned home with heavy hardware from the recent BC Summer Games.

Held in Prince George between Thursday, July 21 and Sunday, July 24, up to 3,600 participants competed in 18 sports for the 32nd iteration of the event, held every two years.

Individual athletes from Nanaimo, Parksville, Qualicum Beach, Lantzville, Nanoose Bay and Ladysmith claimed a combined 15 gold medals, eight silver and eight bronze.

Team sports accounted for another eight gold, four silver and two bronze medals.

The 2024 BC Summer Games will be hosted by Maple Ridge, who were the host city in 2020 prior to the event being cancelled.
